Massachusetts Agriculture Calendar

2013 Massachusetts Agriculture Calendar

The 2013 Massachusetts Agriculture Calendar is a collaboration between the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources , MAC and the Massachusetts Farm to School Project. It has been created to educate consumers about the rich diversity of agriculture in the state, while also providing a daily reminder of agriculture.

Each month of the calendar features one full-size photograph portraying a local farm or farm product in season. Photos were submitted by amateur photographers from across the state for ourMassachusetts Agriculture Calendar Photo Contest. The Calendar was unveiled to the public on September 20 at Massachusetts Day in the Massachusetts Building at the Big E in West Springfield. Commissioner Gregory Watson presented awards to each of the calendar contest winners. The winning photographs are posted below.

The goals of the calendar are to serve as an educational tool for teachers, legislators and the general public, while at the same time to create an attractive color calendar that is a daily reminder of Massachusetts agriculture. The calendar also includes local agriculture facts, conservation facts, agriculture and horticulture related events and websites, as well as a chart showing the seasons of local crops. Ten non-profit agricultural commodity organizations each sponsored a page in the calendar. They are the: Massachusetts Agricultural Fairs Association; Massachusetts Christmas Tree Association; Massachusetts Dairy Promotions Council; Massachusetts Farm Bureau Federation; Massachusetts Farm Winery Association, Massachusetts Flower Growers’ Association; Massachusetts Fruit Growers Association; Massachusetts Maple Producers Association, Massachusetts Nursery and Landscape Association, , and the Massachusetts State Grange.

The proceeds from these sponsorships and calendar sales benefit Massachusetts Agriculture in the Classroom. You may purchase a Massachusetts Agriculture Calendar by sending $10 To Massachusetts Agriculture in the Classroom at P.O. Box 345 Seekonk, MA 02771. There is a discount for orders of 5 or more calendars at $5 each. Print and mail and order form.
